5-23-99 Low Rent White Trash sells Palm Tree.

5-24-99 Begin training/hand feeding baby Quaker. Buy book "The Well Behaved Parrot".Age uncertain, flight not possible,Falls to the floor.

5-25-99 "Guide To The Quaker Parrot" arrives from Amazon. Man at the bird store says she will require at least 3 more weeks of hand feeding.Gives me a millet stick which she chews on.

5-26-99 Begins responding well to Step Up command.Perching on little perch, riding on finger without fear. No biting.

5-27-99 Step Up training OK. Perching on finger very well. Took her around house without noted fear. Tried unsuccessfully to eat some seeds, left some
in cage for practice. Eating millet stick. White trash on vacation with tree money.

5-28-99 Step Up's very good today, will jump from finger to finger without having to pry talons. Attempting speech today, garbled attempts at "My Daddy".
Very good appetite. Made avian vet appointment for Wednesday at 1200.

5-31-99 Good nutrition is paying off. Very spunky today. Can fly a fairly good distance, will get wings clipped on Tuesday. Head stuck in cage, need new cheap cage until she grows.

6-1-99 Canceled Avian Vet due to need for cage. She is chewing up fresh corn, celery, and green peppers. Flying 10 or more feet!

6-2-99 Seems pissed off about wing clipping, a lot of vocalizing. Eating a wide range of fresh vegetables. Perching on play area, not playing with toys yet. No temper tantrums, Puffing a lot. New cage is nice, placed different perches and ladders.Tami gives 2 or 3 syringes of baby food, I will try to give 2.

6-3-99 Very spunky today, eating a lot of corn and trying to crack seed. Unable to crack at this time. Enjoys play area, jumped up on swing. Two syringes of baby food at lunch. Still very garbled speech. Downloaded a list of foods that are very healthy for Quakers, it pasted itself to the top of the document. Also have to check out pellet food vs. seeds.

6-5-99 Eating honey sticks, still unable to crack seed. Three syringes of baby food for lunch. Speech still garbled. Becoming more territorial around cage.

6-6-99 Even more territorial around cage, very nippy. Fine out of cage. Will move to larger conure cage as soon as head is large enough to not get stuck. Need to buy more rope toys for play area. Eating apples.

6-10-99 Uneventful last few days, eating more vegetables. Still receiving a fair amount of babyfood, five at breakfast. Jolly mood, but trying to fly again.

6-13-99 Enjoying carrots, corn, husk, seed, fruit, some watery babyfood. Very spunky and puffy this weekend.
Good with Tami and the other animals this weekend.

6-14-99 Low rent neighbor gone almost three weeks now, hope "For Sale" sign pops up in yard.

6-18-99 Pig neighbor returns, trapsing around our yard again. Libby is finding new and varied ways of entertaining herself with all the new toys in her cage. Less territorial around cage, possibly because we move her frequently to other locations. Still eating eight syringes a day of babyfood, which must be addressed. 6-24-99 will be one month exactly of syringe feeding. Primarily eating corn, leaving lettuce, apple, seeds alone.

6-23-99 One month with us.

6-24-99 Eating corn, lettuce, not as much babyfood, some days none. Some days 5 or more syringes. Extra friendly last few days. Bought a couple new ladders and perches. enjoys rope toys a lot. Enjoys highest perch with toys covering her. No speech yet.

6-26-99 Very friendly, has tons of toys now. Amuses herself with millet sticks and eating a lot of her corn, lettuce, and apple. Was very jealous when Tami found a Cockatiel down buy the waters edge. Very coop. with all training. No speech, strictly monkey noises the last few days.

6-29-99 Still all monkey noises, did try to say her name. Eating plenty of millet seed now along with other vegetables. Temperment excellent. No biting to speak of. Stupid cockatiel is always trying to chew you up.

7-3-99 No babyfood lately, very jolly and cooperative. No speech. So excited sometimes she runs to the bottom of her cage to get out. Eating all types of vegetables, fruit, seed. Book states that if she is making monkey noises to go along with it as a form of mutual communication.

7-4-99 Very jolly, Tami is putting her on the porch with Strange Cockatiel and Baby Boom. Tami said that after being around Baby Boom she tried to give kisses. I heard her say "Riirry", which could be "Libby". Still far from Peter O'Toole doing Shakespeare, but it is a start. will give her some babyfood tommorrow, warmed up as a treat. Running all around cage like a monkey, not up to speed with a Conure, but not clumsy either. I am going to get another cage that has hanging millet that is hard to get to, food under dishes, etc. According to over psycholigized parrot book this is like wild foraging, and burns off energy/aggression. It makes sense.

7-12-99 Has been sitting near Baby Boom, and is picking up a little more speech. Is either trying to say "My Mommy" or "Libby". Can also give kisses, Baby Boom does this all the time, and I never tried to get her to do it. She is obviously learning from her. Sounds like a Kung-Fu fighter more than a monkey now, voice a little clearer. More frequent vocalizations. Jumps in dish of water to take bath, very messy bath, flaps wings. Eating everything. Far less clumsy than 7-4-99. Silly/stupid Cockatiel gone, neighbors friend found home.

7-18-99 Wont even let me pet her.Biting and nasty, wouldn't even step up.

7-19-99 Very jolly, we went out in the sun together. did not bite at all. Took a bath, likes dish a lot more than sink for bath. Speech is frequent but not clear. 7-23-99 Will be two months with us.

7-28-99 Still very pleasant, no biting, squawking, etc. 7-23-99 two month anniversary. eating everything in sight, including cheerios. A larger cage will be nedded quite soon, book states at least four times their normal wingspan.

8-1-99 Has outgrown cage. I will purchase 50.00 rig at the feedstore. Temperment very good, eating a lot of Cheerios! Speech is still garbled but frequent. Less garbled overall. Steps up instantly. Will eventually need a trip to the Birdie Vet. Has grown a lot in two months, nine days. Seems to be growing new feathers on neck, very sensitive to the touch. Loves cuttlebones. Beak looks OK, but I need to verify that the shape is correct when she is at the Vet.

8-8-99 Has new and large cage. Instantly adapted, possibly because I let her watch me put all of her toys in first. Tami says adult Quakers in New York are quite large. Does not like to bathe in sink, clear pyrex dish only. All foods being quickly consumed. Enjoys celery, seeds, corn, lettuce. Will need a vet appointment soon. Still funny to watch her eat Cheerios.

8-12-99 Starting to grow a lot of new feathers. Was eating too many millet sticks and ignoring food. Ate all food and Cheerios without millet in cage.Is eating perches, will need the ones that go all the way through the bars. Has difficulty getting to the bottom of cage her and climbing to door.

8-17-99 Replaced all perches that she had eaten for entertainment with new and harder wood, she probably wont chew them up now because they are all functional in her getting to the bottom of the cage. More and more feathers popping out everywhere. Temperment even. I am beginning to believe that most people with "nasty quakers" either do not feed their birds properly (seeds), or do not train them properly. Tami takes her out into the living room for Cheerio treats if she has been good and eaten all of her regular food, she would live on cheerios and millet if we let her. Like people, they probably enjoy fast burning carbs.

8-23-99 Three months since sociopathic freak sold tree, therefore three months that we have had Libby.

8-27-99 Has been a very good girl lately. Moulting now with pin feathers, she will let you pet them sometimes, sometimes she bites. Feathers everywhere. Looks goofy with new feathers sticking up. Diet is very good, wide variety of veggies and Cheerios. Went wacky when I put her in her baby cage to wash her big one. Likes her new cage a lot, it still needs a few more toys at the top, but is otherwise complete. Beginning to think speech will be very limited or garbled at best, maybe not.

8-29-99 Woke up today, and while I was drinking my coffee Libby said "My Mommy", "Biiiird", and "What's That". Along with "Libby" and giving kisses. She has picked up Baby Boom's whole vocabulary at ~3 or 4 months of age. Obviously my theory from 8-27-99 has been shot down in two days. She will probably have a large vocabulary. This is all probably part of the steps of maturation and socialization with flockmates, as books stated. If you don't give her attention when she is in the toilet with you, she will pull on my little toenails.

9-6-99 Looks less silly than last week, pinfeathers are starting to fill in. Still nippy if you don't scratch her new feathers the right way. If you scratch them properly, she turns her head and gets a funny look on her face. Otherwise status quo.

9-14-99 Very happy lately. Enjoys playing the "Cow and Chicken" game, on the cartoon network we watch Cow and Chicken together. She bobs her head up and down and gets all wacky. Not nippy at all. We took away her millet stick because she was eating millet and seeds and not eating her vegetables. Most new feathers in. No jumps in size. Inching up on four months old.

9-21-99 Two days from four months old. Very happy, bobs head up and down, bangs beak on cage for attention. When you open her cage she likes to come out before stepping up. Otherwise status quo with diet and behaviour.

9-23-99 Four months with us.

10-05-99 After four day flu, picked up Libby and she is quite a plumpy. Very jolly watching Cow and Chicken. All of her new feathers are in, even on her head.

10-17-99 Extremely jolly, still quite plump and very vocal. Enjoyed cleaning Kurt's ear. Should buy her a few new toys.

10-21-99 Status Quo. Enjoys playing with new toys on top of cage. Likes to charge across cage when you play hide and seek. Face looks more puffy with new feathers.

11-2-99 New toys on top of cage, the more the merrier. I will buy more. Likes to spend time in living room in the afternoon. Enjoys dried fruit
Will only eat dry fruit, must limit amount placed in cage. Wont even eat
Cheerios with fruit in cage. Spoiled, very demanding of attention.

11-17-99 Saying all words plus said "Baby Boom" out of the blue. Diet is fine. Temperment is fine. Might try some food pellets for treats. Baby Boom is a lot more sociable, she still prefers to stay by her cage and play with her lids. Libby has a new toy with a large cowbell, she is not afraid of it anymore and rings the bell infrequently. 11-23-99 will be six months with us.

12-23-99 Seven months with us today. No recent entries, Libby is very well adjusted of late. She is spoiled to a degree, and makes a lot of noise if she doesn't get attention. I don't think she will be friendly around strangers, she was biting Kurt fairly hard. He was not holding her properly, and acted afraid. That may have scared her. No size change.

1-17-00 Small size change, more of a plumpy. Very spoiled for attention and affectionate. does not bite hard or throw any temper tantrums. Ours since 5-23-99. Does not like to walk around on any object, prefers to be on people or arm of chair next to us. Six days until eight months with us. Baby Boom has new 300.00 cage. Had attention only from Tami while I was was recovering from the flu and bacterial complications. It sounded like she said "be back" yesterday.

2-7-00 Can now say "night-night", new food treat we only give her only occasionally is a honey stick like Baby Booom's. Has cackling dialogue with Baby Boom. Health, temperment, and appetite are very good.

3-26-00 Can say "Be Back" clearly now, likes to be held on her back for a little while. 3-23-00 was 10 months with us. Appetite is fine. We can only give her honey sticks once in awhile because she will not eat other foods. Will only walk on furniture, counters etc., if you hold her wings and set her down. Rides only with people, she doesn't even fly to the ground.

4-20-00  5/24/00 Will be one year with us. Status Quo with behaviour, appetite, etc. Temperment is excellent. She gets snotty only when ignored. Her and Baby Boom take their bath when I do. It is highly entertaining watching her sit in the little water bowl all puffed up.

4-27-00 First "sentence", can say "I ruvv wuu". This translated means "I love you". This is the first time she has put three words together. Tami holds her on her back, she seems to enjoy it.

5-16-00 Has been all hormonal because it is spring. The guy at the pet shop said they sense the days getting longer. 5/24/00 will be one year since psycho-nurse sold her tree, and we got Libby. Libby said "Scooby-Doooooo" today, she is used to constant attention now that Tami is around all day.

6-1-00 Very clearly says " Scooby Dooby Dooooooo!", is now trying to say "What are you doing?". No longer nippy. Very jolly, comes to the front of cage and steps right up. Wings need to be clipped. Can open cage door if not secured with rod. Has no fear of cats, which is not a good thing. She can't defend herself like Baby Boom. Will hang upside down on fingers.

7-18-2000 Now says "What are you doing". Has been very jolly lately. Likes honey sticks(only the expensive ones, of course). Has not had any behavior problems now that we are both back at work. She has many pin feathers, but is not that irritable unless you scratch them the wrong way. She plays a little game were she sneaks out of the cage until I turn around and peek at her, then she runs back in. then I capture her and give her kisses. I am glad she seems healthy, and I enjoy her company so much. It will probably help some after I have Chubby put to sleep.

8-6-00 Upset on Saturday when we came home late. Stared at us and puffed up. Very jolly since last entry. Wings need to be clipped again. She seems more jolly when we let her hang out with Baby Boom. Several new toys. Tami took her out front, and she did the Libby dance the whole time she was so excited.

8-24-00 Very talkative this afternoon, even with me in the room. She was saying all the usual stuff plus "Biirrrrd", and full sentences that only she can understand(?). I think she is jolly because of the sugar buzz from her new 3.00 honey stick. Even though there are seeds in the bottom of the cage, we put her good food in a SS dish way up high, she eats all of her veggies and very little seed. Wings need to be clipped again. Messes all around her cage now, throwing things out. She must have picked that up from Baby Boom. Conures love to throw shit around, Baby Boom attacks her food dish and flips it over as soon as she gets it. We leave them sitting together, which amuses both of them. This is Libby's only bird exposure, and she tries to copy her mannerisms and sounds. It is hilarious to watch a little Quaker try to scream and sqwawk like a clear/crisp conure. Her voice sounds like an Old Sarge, very  raspy. Her sorry attempts at tounge rolling are especially hilarious.

8-29-00 Awake with me at 0930, stood with one leg on her cage and another on a perch and did the Libby dance for about 20 minutes. It was highly amusing. entertaining.

9-17-00 Does the Libby dance frequently, especially when you are on the phone. Wing have been clipped. Very jolly, throwing her toys on the floor and taking a bath today. Weekends is when she gets a lot of attention from us, she is happiest then. Very windy today because of tropical storm, Pickles came home.

9-18-00 Does the "Libby Dance" when I wake up with one leg on her cage and the other on a ladder. She does it for attention when I am checking the computer, she tries hard to say long sentences, only she can understand what they mean. Very active, her beak is clean, feathers healthy, eating a varied diet. She prefers fresh veggies. Her seed dish is hardly touched. Yesterday was shower day for her and Baby Boom. Pickles the Pigeon is still in his cage on the porch with Pink.

9-26-00 Extra high speed Libby Dance yesterday. I was on the phone with Tami, and she either wanted attention or wanted to say hello, because she was saying undecipherable sentences.

9-27-00 Doesn't like intense speech or wild hand gesticulations. Became aggresive and agitated when her quiet little room was loud. I hope the dead pigeon I saw on the street wasn't Pickles.

11-15-00 Has been spending more time with baby boom because of the house painting, she seemed a little upset, but she watches baby boom for entertainment. They will both be in the family room soon. Behaviour has been very spunky and happy. Eating well. Same speech, no new words. Went for an outing to Tami's mother's house. She seemed to enjoy it except when it was her bed time, then she puffed up. Her travel cage doesn't have any rope hanging down for her to stand under. 11-24-00 wil be a year and a half with us.

11-26-00 The 24th was 1 1/2 years with us. Has been moving around when I paint. Very affectionate, personality is consistently jolly. No new news.

12-05-00 Libby dance yesterday was at least 500rpm, totally hilarious. Brought a few toys from work, I will put them in soon. I have been sick, so I am not handling her in case it is some African/South American creeping crud that birds can catch.

1-13-01 New word "Tami", when Tami comes home. Very healthy. Had one spell when she tried to attack me. I think it was my new glasses. It hasn't happened since. They can eat the shit out of you when they want to.

2-24-01 Chubby put to sleep, didn't wait too long. Libby is snooty and snotty now that Spring is starting. Not overly aggressive, just more puffy and agitated.

05-06-01 Finish of 01-13-01 entry.Attacked me viciously when I had my goatee and new glasses. I found out how very strong and how hard they can bite when they don't recognize you. She drew blood and attacked me with her wings. Now very calm again, I guess her mating season agitation is over. She is sullen and does not come from the back of her cage unless she has the most expensive Honeysticks in town. She will not eat the white trash sticks at all. She does not over eat the sugar/seeds and stop eating her veggies, a lot of it ends up on the floor of her cage.

08-26-04 Wow, no entries for quite a while. Over July Libby was very hormonal and making a lot of strange noises. She must be at full breeding age. Attempts to pet her result in lacerations! Far more aggressive than last entry of long ago.
Now returned to status quo of being spoiled snot. Tami makes special blanket for her to put her head in at night. If you come up to it to tease her she says "Ha - ha  haaaa". Health is very good, feathers are bright. We have a new dog now. His name is "Jäger". German for killer or hunter. He weighs in at 33 lbs, and has a Shepherd head and tiny body. Tami said she brought him to Petsmart, nobody would pet him. Unlike when she brings Bogie who is a very strong genetically superior specimen that is buffed out like a field dog from all the running and exercise. Apparently the yupsters don't like 33 pound mutts, just show dogs, Therefore, I gave him a macho dog name. He is very spunky, just got over kennel cough, and is having a great time with Bogie, who let him come in with no hostility. He has a new friend to play with. Reminds me of Chubby and Max many years ago. Time flies very quickly now.

09-20-04 Brought pictures into work, very overexposed, but still visible. Personality very jolly lately. Just play - fighting, no full blown hormonal rage attacks.

03-07-05 Jäger very much part of family. Him and Bogie are inseperable. Little fucker can move like the wind Libby is still very loving, but hormone season is coming. Gives loud kisses like Baby Boom when you hold her head in your hand.

04-28-05 Tami on vacation to New York. Libby is doing well, she is very much a creature of habit. She seems to know I am trying to make her jolly though. Libby not so aggressive as strange. She is making all sorts of sexy noises she has not made before. Very vocal, not loud, but constant sexy gibberish. Have had her since 5-23-99, coming up on 6 years old.

10-03-05 Saw a Cinnamon Parrot at the pet store. I guess Quakers are more willful. Little bird at store will let anyone handle him - Not Libby! Little pet store bird would swing upside down.

1- 10- 06 Is now skilled at riding and hanging on during house cleaning. Loves to fly very fast now. She has her on flight plan which varies little. She likes to land on you by herself and eats your shirt. I am working on finding some pellets for her to eat.

1 - 23 - 06 Very stealth now. Very bold while cleaning. Tami turned her upside down this weekend and she hung on like a bat.

2 - 2 - 06  Continues to ride everywhere. She is so light I might forget her and go outdoors. I won't even open the cage when Tami is not home. Baby Boom is tryng to do the same thing. I need not the large gaping wounds or amputations she could perform on my ears, face, and nose. Seven years this month. I can't even imagine the heartache when she goes to hang with Chubby.

Libby is very happy. She flys everywhere like a crazy bird. She even makes landings for the grooming of eyelashes and ears. Phyliss said Quakers are more "rambunctious" than some other parrots. I would say more "spunky". She loves to battle while going hah - hah - huh. She never bites, except for eating shoulders off of your shirts. She rides upside down, sideways, and then climbs back up to eat your shirt.

9 - 23 - 06 She bites now ! Hard. She has reached sexual maturity and is laying eggs. Very territorial and nasty around cage. She will draw blood before stepping up. Aggrresive. If her house is in sight she will fly right back to it if you try to do anything she doesn't like. I hope it is a phase, many people have said how nasty quakers are. We have been giving her extra attention. It seems to be helping a little. She is making less of the bizarre noises when you open the cage door.

01 - 09 - 07 Worlds biggest baby. Flying around like a mad woman. The most hilarious time we have been having is taking showers. I found out tonight she loves to shower but not close to the nozzle, but far away like a rainstorm. She was sitting on my head. I must right these moments down, or photograph them. Or paint them. Will turn upside down and whatever. Open door almost always and hanging with us makes her a lot more friendly. I was going to research how often quakers lay eggs, as mating season is when she is rowdy.

04 - 14 - 07 Libby's Big Mommie in the hospital. She can't go up so she wants me to bring her diary to cheer her up. Brought her a picture.
